Nevi - Italian Ti Pioneers

NEVI were one of the first European builders to adopt the use of titanium as a frame material, setting up shop in 1992.

They've never been swayed into combining titanium with other materials for tubes or stays and steadfastly stand by their belief that titanium is the ideal material for building bicycles.

In their early days, they went as far as building forks in titanium and today, they still produce Ti forks for a number of models. Originally, they offered only MTB frames, but added road frames to their repertoire in the mid-'90's as acceptance of titanium reached the peloton.

Today, road and MTB models are offered in equal ratio, with the top models featuring 6Al/4V tubes. All frames are available as custom and BB30 shells are an option for both road and MTB models.

Nevi form all their tubing in-house, and carry out all the cutting and machining of dropouts, head tubes, BB shells and cable stops in the factory. This they say, ensures 100% accuracy and the only way to satisfy their quality standards. Head tubes are engraved with the Nevi logo, leaving you in no doubt of the source.

They also produce a range of components; handlebars, stems and seat posts are offered with a choice of surface finish options, with the possibility of custom sizing and angles if needed.

Nevi styles their frames using a proprietary photoengraving technique, which yields a distinctive bronze finish for the logos. Decals are employed for minor branding on stays, etc.

Up close, the Nevi frames manage to get the balance between industrial-looking construction and Italian finishing flair just right. The end-product is understated, yet elegant on closer inspection. The finish is superb and it was almost impossible to find any surface irregularities or uneven welds on any of the frames they had on display. The component range they offer adds to the desirability of the brand, enhancing the 'full-custom' perception that comes from in-house produced parts.

There may be higher-profile, more familiar names in the titanium market, but Nevi is up there with the best. Nevi clearly demostrate they deserve more recognition for their quality and expertise. The finished product, after all, says more about the builder than any amount of marketing ever can.
